Valentine's Day Perspective in 2024

I have written a lot from a broken heart and sometimes I find it harder to write from a healing loving heart and about dating when it’s not little letters and texts to my first love.

If you asked me a couple of years ago what I thought about Valentine’s day, I wouldn’t know what to say! I would probably rumble something about how it is a day, like every other holiday, let’s be honest, created by sales and big companies and marketed to be another day of the year to buy more and more things!

Everything that I thought was silly and lame in dating, I started to see differently when I started dating. If you are in a stable and healthy relationship, you start seeing things from a different perspective. I remember noticing my thought process shift from what it was to be something new and unexpected.

The perspective you have about a relationship and all that it takes truly changes when you start a relationship because like all things you haven’t experienced your opinion and how and what you think about it changes.

I still think about Valentine’s Day as a consumerism-evolved holiday like I think about some other holidays, but as each of them carries a true meaning behind it – Christmas as the day Jesus was born –, Valentine’s Day also carries the meaning of love and appreciation for the person you are with or want to be with.

It’s true you need and must appreciate your partner every day and carry your love through every season and change of your life, but I believe this date is like a mark in your relationship just like your anniversary, where and when you do a little bit more to show affection and love for your partner.

As someone who is not in a relationship, for a couple months now, as Valentine’s Day approaches, I am left with a sticky sad feeling but also an exciting one. Sad because I loved to spend Valentine’s Day with my first love, just be with him and love love. Exciting because the dating didn’t lose its loving and caring perspective and I can expect the future!
